Lists of countries visited may come across as notches on one’s bedpost, but that isn’t what I have in mind for this list of where I’ve been. My decision when choosing a destination isn’t shaped by the desire to increase my country count at any cost. I’ve been to many countries multiple times and I think doing this increases the depth with which you can connect to the culture, language, environment and climate. Perhaps, in many ways, revisiting destinations is akin to slow travel.
Having said that, I do find it difficult to resist a list accompanied by quantitative data and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been keeping a mental list for years. So what’s the purpose of keeping track? Firstly, although my list isn’t yet very long, I might forget as time goes on so having it documented somewhere is handy. Secondly, it is helpful for you to know where I have been in case you have questions about specific destinations. Chances are, I’ll be able to give you a few tips if I’ve already visited the country in question. That would be due to my borderline obsessive thorough research before departure.
At the end of the day this list is as much for you as it is for me. The countries are separated into continents and are in alphabetical order for easy scanning.
See a country you’ve also visited? Tell me all about your trip it in the comments.
See a country you want to visit? Ask me about it!
See a massive hole where your favorite destination should be? Give me all the suggestions you have for my next trip.

July 19, 2020 at 6:57 pmIf you want to check off another continent, I highly recommend Peru! Machu Picchu is all it’s cracked up to be, and the food is amazing. There are other ruins worth exploring, and Cusco is a gem. But, I would recommend only bottled water and “cooked” food.

July 19, 2020 at 8:01 pmMy brother and his wife just traveled to Peru at the end of last year. 2020 was meant to be the year I made it to South America. We had plans to meet up in Brazil for Carnival, but 2020 hasn’t gone to anyone’s plans. Perhaps I’ll be able to go soon. Machu Picchu has been on my bucket list for some time.
